Mayor Dennis Lever took time out from the regular Puslinch council agenda on June 6 to recognize senior of the year Marjorie Clark.
“As many of you know, June is Seniors Month and municipalities are asked to select a specific senior who has made significant contributions to their community,” said Lever, who then asked Clark to come forward.
He described Clark as a renowned local historian who has worked diligently to preserve the history of Puslinch.
“She continues to publish books, and articles in local Newspapers and other online media,” said Lever.
He added Clark and her brother John have made many donations to the archives – both locally and to Wellington County Museum and Archives – including toys, dolls, clothes, baby shoes and figurines.
Lever noted a number of their donations “have found their way into the warden’s office in the county administration building.”
Lever said Clark is a member of the Wellington County and Puslinch historical societies, working with others on presservation and access to the history of the area.
“And of course there is the website www.clarksoftomfad.ca, which offers a very detailed account of our past,” Lever said.
“Marjorie lives east of Aberfoyle in Corwhin and recently authored an interesting story on how the community was named.”
The mayor noted that six years ago Clark received a Diamond Jubilee Medal.
Clark said she was glad to be able to contribute to an area where here family has lived since 1833.
“I would like to be able to share the award [with my brother] because he researches, is my tech support, and frees me up in many ways so I can write,” she said.
