MAPLETON – The cost of remuneration for Mapleton council members totalled $164,099 in 2024.
That’s 13.5% more than the $144,574 paid out in 2023.
The mayor and councillors’ salaries and expenses were presented during a regular meeting of council on March 18.
Mayor Gregg Davidson received $50,982, which included a base salary of $35,482, per diems of $5,040 and expenses of $10,460 for hotels, milage, parking, registration fees, meals and other expenses.
Councillor Amanda Reid received $32,371, including a salary of $21,800, per diems of $3,380 and expenses of $7,192.
Councillor Marlene Ottens received $26,506, including a salary of $21,800, per diems of $1,100 and expenses of $3,606.
Councillor Michael Martin received $25,525, including a salary of $21,800, per diems of $1,140 and expenses of $2,585.
Former councillor Martin Tamlyn, who resigned in September, received $26,702, including a salary of $16,350, per diems of $2,580 and expenses of $7,772.
Councillor Lori Woodham, who was appointed to council in November, received a salary of $2,012 and did not claim any per diems or expenses.
During the meeting, Woodham said her colleagues’ expenses show that they are actively engaged in training, committees and attending workshops.
“This shows that this council cares and wants to learn everything we can,” she said.
Woodham noted council members often carpool to events, which leads to some members having higher mileage expenses than others.
Martin said Woodham forgot to mention the best part – “we’re under budget.”
The 2024 budget included $179,493 for council remuneration, including per diems and expenses.
