A Rockwood man has been found guilty of manslaughter in the 2012 death of his sister-in-law, Xhuljeta (Julia) Vlashi. A jury found Xhevahir Myftari, 38, guilty on March 20 in Guelph Superior Court of Justice.
Xhuljeta Vlashi, 44, of Rockwood, was found dead at her Gamble Lane home when police were called to investigate reports of a family dispute Aug. 27, 2012.
The following morning, Myftari, who lived in the victim’s home at the time, was arrested in Mississauga. He was charged with first degree murder, but that was downgraded to second degree murder by the time the trial began earlier this month.
Myftari pleaded he was not criminally responsible for the crime due to mental issues. Sentencing is set for May.
