A local man has been sentenced to five years in prison in connection with the death of his grandmother.
Ryan Ives, 20, of Mount Forest, was recently convicted of manslaughter in Guelph court.
He was charged last April following a violent attack involving three other people.
Two people had minor injuries but Joan Dinsmore, 79, died as a result of her injuries two days after the incident.
Wellington County OPP stated the incident involved an unidentified weapon.
Ives’ brother Dillan Dart, who was at the Mount Forest residence at the time of the April 26 incident, later told CTV News Ives choked his grandfather before throwing a frying pan that struck Dinsmore in the head.
Ives was charged with manslaughter, assault causing bodily harm, threatening to cause death, assault, mischief and six counts of assault with a weapon.
He has over 700 days of pre-sentence custody, which is deducted from his sentence. He was also banned from owning a weapon and must submit a DNA sample.
