Man airlifted to hospital after falling into gorge

Police say a man had to be rescued from the Elora Gorge after he lost his grip while hanging from a truss bridge and fell 40 feet to the ice shelf below.
Shortly after 6pm on March 18, emergency crews responded to the injured person call near Middlebrook Road.
Wellington County OPP officials stated an 18-year-old Grand Valley man fell into the Elora Gorge along the Grand River.
OPP officers, as well as Centre Wellington firefighters and Guelph-Wellington paramedics responded.
Police say the injured male was trespassing in the Elora Gorge Conservation Area with two others males when he fell from the “high level bridge” into the gorge.
It is not clear why the teen, who narrowly missed the rushing water,   was hanging from the bridge.
Firefighters conducted a high angle rope rescue to extricate him into paramedics’ care.
An Ornge air ambulance landed at the scene and airlifted the patient to a trauma centre with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Police say all three males received trespassing tickets.
