Major roadwork slated for summer throughout Centre Wellington

While the results will be good in the long run, local residents may not be thrilled with the short-term impact of major roadwork this summer.

On May 6, Centre Wellington Mayor Joanne Ross-Zuj noted there are a number of road projects slated for this summer.

Commenting briefly on the Wellington County roads tour, she said the county is very active in the community right now with the replacement of the Tower Street bridge in Fergus.

She also mentioned work on Wellington County Road 7 near the 2nd Line to add a new lane.

“So there will be major construction in that area.”

Additional work will complete rehabilitation of Wellington Road 19 straight through to Belwood, Ross-Zuj said.

In addition, a turning lane is being added in front of Highland Pines Campground.

She added the work on the Tower Street bridge “is looking fantastic in its mess.”

But the project is on target and the big cranes will be returning to Fergus to install additional girders for the bridge.

In addition, more work will be ongoing this summer along Tower Street between Queen and Union Streets with the replacement of municipal services and repaving.
