Major construction on County Roads 124 and 50 affects traffic between Guelph-Eramosa and Erin

WELLINGTON COUNTY – Two major construction projects will affect the flow of traffic between Guelph-Eramosa and Erin, starting this month.

The County of Wellington has contracted J.G. Goetz Construction Limited, for the reconstruction of Wellington Road 50 (Harris Street) in Rockwood.

It is a joint effort with the Township of Guelph-Eramosa, which will see the reconstruction of Harris Street from Hwy. 7 to the railway tracks.

Work is scheduled to commence on June 17 and be completed in October this year. The road will be closed with local access maintained for residents and emergency vehicles.

Through traffic will have to detour using County Roads 27 and 124, and the 7th Line.

Eramosa River Bridge replacement

Also, the county has contracted Esposito Bros Construction Limited, for the replacement of the Eramosa River Bridge on County Road 124 just east of Ospringe in the Town of Erin.

Construction will start on June 24 and last for two construction seasons.

Stage 1 will see the road remain open, with a traffic reduction to a single lane using signalized control of traffic across the bridge.

Once stage 1 is complete (anticipated October 2019), two lanes of traffic (one east, one west) will be re-established and maintained through stage 2 until the end of construction in October 2020.

There will be traffic delays, and the county recommends the use of an alternate route.
