As the local radio station here now reaches a larger market, a new name was in order.
And on April 28, the station launched its new look at the Erin Home Show.
Ray Young, chairman of Main Street Radio’s 2012 board of directors, is excited about the move.
“Today’s announcement to the public is that what used to be Erin Radio or CHES is now Main Street Radio FM88.”
The station is at 88.1 on the FM dial.
“Since our service has increased from 50 watts to 250 watts we thought it was an elegant time to re-brand and go to Main Street Radio because now we reach the main streets of so many different communities in the area. Its wonderful to be able to serve everybody.”
When asked if that marked another step in the growth of community radio, Young answered, “Precisely. It started off with a very low signal, barely reaching outside the village of Erin, and has grown now such that we can reach a lot of places in Orangeville. We’ve been heard in Guelph, Georgetown and over to Caledon. So we truly are a large community radio station now.”
The station is a not-for-profit organization formed to develop an alternative to commercial radio service and is aimed at listeners in or near the Town of Erin, Georgetown, Orangeville, Caledon, Grand Valley, Hillsburgh, Rockwood, Acton, South Guelph and more than 25 countries around the world can hear it live on the internet.
The station provides an opportunity for people in the market to create entertaining, informative and innovative local radio programming.
