Mayor Lou Maieron thinks it would be great if the 2016 International Plowing Match (IPM) is held in Wellington County – and possibly more so if it is held here.
In his mayor’s report, Maieron told council the county is vying to host the 2016 IPM.
That committee has many requirements to host such a site, and Maieron forwarded those to the town’s economic development committee and the local agricultural society.
While uncertain the land required could be put together, he does not believe Erin has ever hosted the IPM.
“They need about 500 acres of land,” Maieron said.
Councillor Barb Tocher added “Contiguous acres.”
Maieron said, “Wellington County has committed $100,000 towards this so far. It would create a big economic spin-off. We’ll go from there if there is any [local] interest. They have to host it somewhere in the county.”
Tocher noted the last IPM was hosted in Centre Wellington in 2000.
