Hundreds of children dashed through the rain drops to discover there was more than reading at the library in Clifford during the 150th Community Anniversary and 2017 Clifford Homecoming on Aug. 4 and 5.
Information services librarian Brooke McLean, branch supervisor Cathy Fletcher, and assistant branch supervisor Barb Potts had cake and lemonade, homecoming logo button making, robotic cubelets, colour changing ozobots, a caterpillar, and a pair of interactive robots in a wooden maze.
John Bowen, a former owner of the historic grist mill, was the first to have his photo taken in front of the green screen with a photo of the mill in the background. John and his wife Ann hosted their own open house at the former Bieman Creamery. They had tours, maps, books, and memorabilia of the creamery.
Magician Scott Dietrich included children in each of his tricks. He opened with a rope trick and followed with card tricks, tricks with balls, spots, streamers, crayons, scarves, and even encased a cell phone in a balloon. He encouraged the children to find inspiration for magic in the pages of books on loan at the library. For his final trick, he pulled Sir Walken, his rabbit, out of his magic hat. Much to everyone’s surprise, he allowed every child a chance to pet Sir Walken before disappearing himself back to Toronto.
