Following sold-out performances of Sleeping Beauty in 2015 and Cinderella in 2014, Drayton Entertainment will once again present Canada’s Ballet Jörgen this fall – this time in a magnificent new version of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake.
This beloved classical ballet will be on stage for two performances only on Sept. 25 at 11:30am and 4pm at the Dunfield Theatre Cambridge.
“This is a great opportunity for audiences of all ages to experience another form of professional live entertainment at the Dunfield Theatre Cambridge,” said Alex Mustakas, artistic director of Drayton Entertainment.
“It’s also a wonderful chance for parents and grandparents to introduce children to the magical world of dance in a way that is accessible and relatable.”
Since its premiere in Moscow in 1877, Swan Lake has remained one of the most enduring, moving and irreplaceable works in the classical ballet repertoire. Based on Russian folklore and German legend, the production follows a heroic young prince as he works to free the beautiful swan maiden from an evil spell.
Fable re-imagined
In this latest incarnation, Canada’s Ballet Jörgen reimagines the fable of love and sacrifice, setting it in the picturesque seascape of Nova Scotia’s Fortress of Louisbourg.
Featuring lavish sets, incredible costumes and outstanding dancers, the moving performance showcases the extraordinary beauty of traditional ballet while also reflecting a distinctly Canadian heritage.
As one of the country’s leading dance companies, Ballet Jörgen Canada is recognized for the innovation, warmth, humour and beauty in its works. For 25 years, the organization has sought to advance the art and appreciation of ballet and Canadian choreography through performance, educational experiences and outreach.
Tickets for Swan Lake are on sale now. Tickets are $35 for adults; $25 for youth under 20 years of age. Tickets for groups of 20 or more are $30. HST is applicable to all ticket prices.
