KITCHENER – Bereaved Families of Ontario – Midwestern Region (BFO-MR) has launched its Loved Ones Remembered campaign with the goal of giving families a way to honour the people in their lives who have died while raising critical funds for its grief support programs.
Community members are invited to set up a page online in memory of their loved one. There is an opportunity to upload photos, videos and share a story.
“Right now, people are looking for ways to honour loved ones who have died, since the ways we are used to aren’t possible due to COVID-19,” said Jaime Bickerton, BFO-MR executive director.
“Participating in the campaign is a wonderful way to create a legacy for your person. It creates an opportunity to talk about the people you’re missing and to honour them publicly.”
Funds raised through the campaign support programs for children, parents, families and individuals who are grieving. All BFO-MR programs are offered free of charge. In 2019, almost $6,000 was raised with 13 people participating. So far this year, four people have set up pages and just over $4,000 has been raised. The campaign goal is $10,000 and it runs until Dec. 31.
“In light of COVID-19 and the impact it is having on how we grieve, ensuring BFO-MR can continue to provide support now and in the future is more important than ever,” Bickerton said.
“While this year has been difficult, we anticipate even greater challenges in 2021 – as a small not-for-profit, every dollar counts.”
