The inaugural running of the world’s richest horse race, the Pegasus World Cup Invitational, was held at Gulfstream Park in Florida in January.
Purse money for the race was US $12 million.
In celebration of this race, The Paulick Report, North America’s leading independent Thoroughbred racing website, held a handicapping contest where the top ten finishers in the race had to be picked in the correct order of finish.
The prize was a Rambo horse blanket valued at more than US $500, to be donated to the contest winner’s charity of choice.
Bob Costello of Toronto, the contest winner, chose to donate the blanket to LongRun Thoroughbred Retirement Society in Hillsburgh.
The blanket arrived in the LongRun office shortly thereafter.
LongRun Thoroughbred Retirement Society is a registered charity that takes recently retired thoroughbred racehorses as donations from owners or trainers and helps transition them to another equine discipline.
Some are then adopted and some remain at LongRun to live out their retirement.
Costello and his wife Rondi present the blanket to one of the retired racehorses at LongRun in March.
“They were absolutely thrilled to see our farm and know that their prize was going to a very good cause,” LongRun officials state.
“The lucky recipient was the very handsome Enough Already, aka Nuffers.”
They added, “We would like to extend our sincerest appreciation to great supporters like the Costellos who we now consider lifelong friends of LongRun’s.”
