Total OMPF grants up for north Wellington region
WELLINGTON COUNTY – Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund (OMPF) allocations to northern Wellington County municipalities will increase by $85,500 next year, with grant levels rising in Mapleton and Wellington North while dropping in Minto.
Wellington County re-appoints integrity commissioner
GUELPH – Wellington County council has re-appointed Guy Giorno as the county’s integrity Commissioner (IC) for a four-year term commencing on Jan. 1, 2023.
Preliminary budget draft projects 3.8% increase in county tax rate
GUELPH – A preliminary draft of the 2023 county budget and 10-year plan includes a proposed 3.8 per cent increase in the tax rate next year. However, some members of Wellington County council are pushing for a lower rate hike.

WELLINGTON COUNTY – Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund (OMPF) allocations to local municipalities will decrease by a combined total of just over $100,000 next year.

COVID-19 assessment centre in Fergus permanently closed
FERGUS – The COVID-19 assessment centre in the old Groves hospital in Fergus is now permanently closed. The centre, which opened in August of 2020, was shut down on Dec. 1.
Wellington County examines diversifying farm land uses
WELLINGTON COUNTY – Provincial policy dictating how agricultural land is used in Ontario allows for secondary on-farm uses, but local land use policy and zoning bylaws can get in the way, preventing farmers from diversifying on-farm income sources.
