MINTO – A shortage of lifeguards will result in modified schedules at swimming pools in Palmerston and Harriston this summer, including closing each of the pools for one day on weekends.

MINTO – Willa Wick has been named Senior of the Year for the Town of Minto. Mayor Dave Turton announced the award at the June 6 town council meeting.

WELLINGTON COUNTY – Environment Canada has issued a special air quality alert for Wellington County, and much of southern Ontario, due to smoke plumes from Quebec and northeastern Ontario. "High levels of air pollution have developed due to smoke from forest fires," the June 7 alert states.

Flower show – Despite spring weather conditions on May 23, the Clifford and District Horticultural Society had over 100 exhibits at its annual Spring Flower Show.

Market opens – Crystal, Luke, and four-year-old Brooke Hartung were among the many vendors at the Minto Farmers Market, which opened for the season on June 3.

Pride Month – Members of the Minto Pride committee and local volunteers were last week decorating local communities for Pride Month (June).

GUELPH – Palmerston resident Michael Hurst was sentenced to two years of house arrest and three years of probation following convictions for sexual assaults and indecent acts involving five women between 2007 and 2015.

A petition calling for the reversal of a decision to cut a performing arts course at Norwell District Secondary School is gaining steam, but local school board officials say the decision won’t be reversed in time for the next school year.
