WELLINGTON COUNTY – Four overdose deaths have been reported over the last week in the Guelph, Rockwood, Elora and Arthur areas. Fentanyl is believed to be involved these deaths, which may suggest a stronger than normal substance is circulating in the community, public health officials stated.

FERGUS – The Centre Wellington Minor Lacrosse Association is now seeking public input on a new team name. The league has come up with several suggestions but also welcomes new ideas from local residents.

ELORA – A new grocery store, the Geddes Street Market, will be opening in Elora this spring. Debra Kropf will own and operate the store that once belonged to her parents, Merlen and Doreen Kropf, at 169 Geddes Street.

FERGUS – Centre Wellington residents and businesses have the chance to reimagine St. David Street in Fergus as the township considers how to reconstruct the major thoroughfare after infrastructure work is complete.

ABOYNE – A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at Wellington Terrace Long-Term Care Home after an essential caregiver for a resident tested positive for the virus. County officials say the individual, last in the building on Feb. 21, is asymptomatic and in isolation at home.

FERGUS – Even though the idea of racism is complex and difficult for young students to digest, Newman’s Grade 1/2 class at Victoria Terrace Public School in Fergus was captivated by the story of Viola Desmond and her role in Canada’s Black history.
