CENTRE WELLINGTON – Dr. Andreas Laupacis said being appointed to the Order of Canada is an honour that is “very humbling in a big way" but there are many others he “worked with who also deserve it.”

FERGUS – Wellington County’s first baby of 2023, Euphemia Emma Ruttan-Rude, was born at Groves Memorial Community Hospital at 3:43am on Jan. 1.

WELLINGTON COUNTY – No one was seriously injured, but police responded to hundreds of calls across the county between Dec. 23 and 26, during what was likely the worst winter storm here in several years.

ELORA – Elora House has come a long way since its interrupted beginning back in March 2020. The facility, which helps women escaping sex trafficking to overcome their trauma, learn some life skills and re-integrate into society, was only open a few days before the COVID-19 pandemic hit.

ELORA – “She made a huge impact ... she was a bit of an icon in the community.” That’s how former coworker Kim Iverson describes Debbie Mooney-Bianchi, who retired from the Elora Co-operative Preschool this year after teaching there since 1974. 

CENTRE WELLINGTON – Scottish curlers are heading here early in the new year to compete at the Fergus and Elora curling clubs as part of the Strathcona Cup Tour.

WELLINGTON COUNTY – The County of Wellington has declared a “significant weather event” due to the considerable snowfall and current blowing snow.

WELLINGTON COUNTY – Libraries and waste facilities across the county are closed today in response to a major winter storm warning. The Wellington County Museum and Archives has also been closed.

WELLINGTON COUNTY – With a major storm warning issued by Environment Canada for the province, including the local region, numerous closures have been announced with more expected as the storm progresses.

ABOYNE – Famous for its beauty and inspiration, it comes as no surprise the Elora Gorge would be the subject of an art exhibition at the Wellington County Museum and Archives.
