The Guelph Marlin Aquatic Club sent a squad of 25 swimmers to compete at Swim Ontario’s Long-Course Provincial Championships on June 30 to July 3.
This championship showcases the top swimmers in the province and provides fast racing opportunities as many clubs prepare to compete at upcoming Age Group Nationals in Calgary, Alberta at the end of July.
This meet was also the final opportunity for the Marlins’ 11 to 12 year old boys relays to reach their goal of sweeping all ten National Age Group records.
The team of Russell Burton, Colin Campbell, William Beckstead-Holman and Marcus Beckstead-Holman broke their final two records in both the 4x50m Medley and 4x100m Medley Relays, becoming the only age group relay in Canada to hold all ten records.
Abigail McDonald, 15, of Elora earned silver in 200m IM and 200m backstroke and bronze in 200m breaststroke and 400m IM.
Other local competetors include Thomas McDonald, Colin Campbell and Claire Campbell

Open Water Provincials
Swim Ontario also hosted Open Water Provincials at Professor’s Lake in Brampton on June 6.
Several Marlins competed in both 2km and 5km races with Russell Burton, 13, and Sebastien Reimer, 14, finishing third in their respective age groups.
