The Eden Mills Writers’ Festival in conjunction with the College of Arts at the University of Guelph will host In Conversation with Naomi Klein on Sept. 12 at 1pm at War Memorial Hall at the University of Guelph.
In This Changes Everything, Naomi Klein, author of the global bestsellers The Shock Doctrine and No Logo, tackles the most profound threat humanity has ever faced: the war our economic model is waging against life on earth.
Climate change, Klein argues, is a civilizational wake-up call, a powerful message delivered in the language of fires, floods, storms, and droughts. Confronting it is no longer about changing the light bulbs. It’s about changing the world. It has been said that humanity is too greedy and selfish to rise to this challenge. In fact, all around the world, the fight for the next economy and against reckless extraction is already succeeding in ways both surprising and inspiring.
Klein’s presentation will be followed by a discussion moderated by Barry Smit, professor of geography at the University of Guelph. A book signing will follow the event.
Klein is an award-winning journalist and the author of the critically acclaimed international bestsellers The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism and No Logo: Taking Aim at the Brand Bullies, which the The New York Times called “a movement bible.”
No Logo won Canada’s National Business Book Award, was named one of the 100 most important Canadian books ever published by The Literary Review of Canada, and was chosen as one of Time Magazine’s Top 100 Non-Fiction books since 1923.
