Many people in Centre Wellington will recognize the name Patrick Anderson as the local Sports icon known as the best wheelchair basketball player in the world.
With countless national and international awards including four Paralympic medals (three of them gold) Anderson has never forgotten his roots in Fergus and is returning home to share his music talent.
“Coming back to Fergus for the launch of our second album is a thrill,” Anderson said while making final preparations for a special live show at the Grand Theatre in Fergus on June 23.
“While basketball allows me to see and travel the world, I am excited about coming back home with Anna to share with my friends and family the next phase of my career.”
Anna Paddock and Anderson formed The Lay Awakes in 2014 (after marrying three years earlier) and released a self-titled EP in 2015.
National and U.S. launch
Based in Brooklyn, NY, The Lay Awakes bring a mature, dynamic and versatile approach to the singer/songwriter genre. This Fergus show is part of a national and U.S. launch of their new album Home Away From Home.
The group are taking the summer to plan a promotional tour that will take them across Canada and into the U.S.
“Pat is so proud and appreciative of how supportive Fergus has been to him throughout his career,” said Paddock, Anderson’s wife and musical partner.
“While he is training this summer for basketball, we are planning a tour that will take us across Canada and into the U.S. starting in October. This is our first show since the release of the new album and we can’t think of a better community to share our new album with live.”
The Lay Awakes are performing at the Grand Theatre in Fergus on June 23 at 8pm.
