Local singer releases tribute song

Local country music singer and songwriter Brittany Brodie has released a tribute song for the Humboldt Broncos junior hockey team.

On April 6 the Humboldt Broncos junior hockey team bus was involved in a tragic crash in Saskatchewan that left 16 people dead.

For the Mount Forest artist, the tragedy struck close to home. Years ago Brodie’s cousin, and two of his friends, were killed on their way to a hockey game in Lethbridge, Alberta.

“I sat down two years ago with my friend Regie Hamm in Nashville,” Brodie said in an interview with the Advertiser. “We discussed what I wanted to write about that particular day; and the direction of the song. We wrote it in one afternoon.”

The song was titled See You Soon.

“I was in Nashville when News broke of the bus crash with the Humboldt Broncos and like all Canadians and people from around the world, I was devastated,” Brodie said.

“The next day it came to me, the song See You Soon I had written two years ago was going to be part of a bigger plan. This song is for them.”

See You Soon was released to radio on April 30 and 100 per cent of the proceeds will be donated to the Humboldt Strong Community Foundation.

“This is why it’s important to ‘Like,’ ‘Follow,’ ‘Share,’ buy, stream this song and call, email to request,” Brodie said.

The song is available on country radio and some pop radio stations across Canada. It’s also available online for purchase at all major retailers such as iTunes, Apple Music and streaming services like Spotify.
