GUELPH – Kindergarten registration for the Upper Grand District School Board (UGDSB) and Wellington Catholic District School Board (WCDSB) is fast approaching.
Registration for new UGDSB junior kindergarten and senior kindergarten students for September 2022 will take place between Jan. 4 and 21.
The process for kindergarten registration at UGDSB is hybrid this year, and the board has offered a step-by-step guide on the registration process:
– pre-register online at www.ugdsb/Kindergarten between Jan. 4 and 21;
– once registered, make sure you have received a confirmation email to your inbox (check your spam folder if you do not receive it in your main inbox folder);
– make an appointment with your school to provide the required documents (this appointment can be either in-person or online)
“The online pre-registration process allows families to fill out the pre-registration form when it’s convenient for them,” the board notes. “If parents and guardians require assistance pre-registering online or do not have access to technology, they are asked to contact their child’s home school.”
If English is not the family’s first language, the board website can be translated by selecting the preferred language from the “select language” button on the top right-hand side of the website.
The board also notes all UGDSB schools that offer French immersion at the junior kindergarten level have an enrolment cap.
The board notes, if applying to French immersion, families must complete the application process, including submission of all required documents by 4pm on Jan. 21 to be considered ‘on time.’
For more information on the junior kindergarten FI application, visit www.ugdsb.ca/jkfi.
Currently all registrations for the 2022-23 school year are for in-person learning. For more information about kindergarten registration, visit the board website.
Kindergarten registration at WCDSB
WCDSB is welcoming families to register their children for kindergarten beginning Jan. 3 for the 2022-23 school year.
Kindergarten registration is set to run until Jan. 28 and is available online. To assist in optimal planning for kindergarten programs for the upcoming school year, the board is encouraging families to register within this registration period.
To attend junior kindergarten in September 2022, students must be four years old on or before Dec. 31. For those inquiring about starting in senior kindergarten – children must be five years old on or before Dec. 31.
The process for kindergarten registration is hybrid this year with pre-registration occurring online and a subsequent follow up from your local Catholic elementary school to complete the enrollment.
For more details on how to register, and to begin the process, visit the board’s kindergarten registration page at www.wellingtoncdsb.ca/apps/pages/kindergartenregistration. Families will receive a verification e-mail to confirm pre-registration and share next steps.
“At Wellington Catholic, we are committed to places of learning that are safe, caring and inclusive,” said Tyrone Dowling, superintendent of education.
“We are a community that inspires excellence. Our staff look forward to working with your child to ignite the divine spark, natural curiosity, and the God-given strengths in each one of them.”
Unique to WCDSB, families interested in having their child enter school immersed in an International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme have the option to do so at Sacred Heart Catholic School in Guelph.
For children in kindergarten to age 12, the Primary Years Programme nurtures and develops young students by offering an inquiry-based curriculum framework that builds conceptual understanding.
The program provides education that promotes critical thinking skills and allows elementary students to begin their French studies in kindergarten. Limited space is available, the board notes, and registrations must be completed by Jan. 28 to be considered for this program.
