FERGUS – A Fergus real estate agent has been recognized for making the most donations to McMaster/Sick Kids hospitals in 2024 from among her Re/Max peers.
Kaitlyn Goodfellow said she just learned the news and is surprised by the recognition.
She takes a portion of her commission on every home sale or lease and sets it aside for donations.
In 2024 donations were directed to the hospitals.
This year her donations will go to the Aboyne Rural Hospice, construction of which is to begin in the next few years.
“I’ve had family members and friends who need end-of-life service,” she said in a phone interview.
“I have friends whose children went to Sick Kids.
“It’s the message behind the award that makes me proud,” she continued. “For me it’s personal. It’s all about giving back.”
Goodfellow worked with a Re/Max team in Guelph for many years and appreciated the “opportunities to learn” there. Last year she opened her own business in Fergus and is now an independent agent.
As part of her recognition, Goodfellow was given a tour of Toronto’s Sick Kids hospital on March 13, a place she called “a truly fantastic hospital.”
She hesitated to say how much she donated in 2024 but hopes she’ll be able to donate $50,000 to the Aboyne Rural Hospice in 2025 based on sales.
