WELLINGTON COUNTY – Aspiring young writers are being invited to put their creativity to the test in the Wellington County Library’s annual Olive and Fred Robins Junior Short Story Contest.
“The contest provides a great opportunity for students to practise their writing skills and try out new ideas,” librarian Danielle Drimmie said in a news release. “We love reading all the submissions and sharing our favourites with everyone in the county.”
The contest is open to students in Grades 4, 5 and 6 who live in or attend school in Wellington County. Between Oct. 1 and 31, they are invited to submit their original stories of between 500 and 750 words for a chance to win a cash prize and see their work published.
“The contest emphasizes creativity and originality,” and stories will be judged by a committee after the submission deadline, the release stated.
Two winners will receive a $150 cash prize, and their stories will be featured on the Wellington County Library website and submitted for potential publication in the Wellington Advertiser.
