Local food project receives $10,000 from Greenbelt Fund

A local food project will receive $10,000 from the Ontario Greenbelt Fund.

The provincial government is spending nearly $500,000 on 19 projects designed to help bring more local food to Ontario plates.

With $4.2 million in support from the government, the Greenbelt Fund has supported 96 projects across Ontario since 2015.

Bell’s Edge Farm in Minto produces specialty butter and ghee.

Owners Vince Tkaczuk and Sarah Biancucci will purchase packaging equipment to optimize the production of local flavoured butter and ghee, while developing new products under their flavoured butter line.

A press release from the province states that Bell’s Edge Farm is currently the only purveyor of ghee and flavoured butter sourced from Canadian ingredients.

The operation forecasts an increase of $152,625 in local food sales during the project’s duration, and will create two full-time and three part-time jobs.
