FERGUS – A few local dancers went home with some hardware following the Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games over the weekend.
The Fergus-based Blue Bonnet Lassies School of Highland Dance had 14 dancers competing on the Saturday of the festival, and 12 competing on Sunday, and while there were no first-place finishes, there were some seconds and thirds.
Here’s how they did:
Saturday, Aug. 10
In the beginner seven years and under category, Brianna Earle placed seventh in the sword dance.
In the beginner nine years category, Harlyn Heathers placed fourth in fling and sixth in Seann Truibhas.
In the beginner 10 years category, Hazel McAlister placed fifth in sword, sixth in Seann Truibhas, and fifth in fling.
In novice 11 and U13, Cayley Simpson took third in fling.
In novice 13 and U15, Gabby Jackson took second in fling and fourth in sword; while Brook Bailey placed fourth in Seann Truibhas.
Sunday, Aug. 11
In the beginner nine years category, Violet Earle placed fifth in Tulloch and lilt and sixth in Flora; Harlyn Heathers placed second in lilt, third in Flora and fourth in Tulloch, earning her a runner-up trophy for second highest number of aggregate points in the group.
In the novice 10 years category, Scarlett Jackson placed fifth in trophy fling, third in Tulloch and lilt and fourth in Flora, also earning a runner-up trophy for her group.
In novice 11 and U14 Cayley Simpson placed fifth in Flora, and Brooke Bailey placed third in Tulloch and sixth in lilt.
In novice 14 years and over, Gabby Jackson placed third in Flora.
In the premier 15 years category, Eila Gillies placed fifth in Flora and lilt and sixth in sword.
In the premier 21 years and over category, Ashley Elliott placed fourth in fling, fifth in Tulloch and sword and sixth in village maid, lilt and Seann Truibhas.
