Local community groups to march for International Women’s Day

GUELPH – Local community groups are gearing up to host a march and celebration in commemoration of International Women’s Day next week.

Organized by Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis, the YMCA of Three Rivers Guelph, the Canadian Federation of Women Guelph, the Zonta Club of Guelph, and ARCH HIV/AIDS Resources and Community Health, the march will take place on March 8 at 12pm at Market Square in Guelph.

“Each year, International Women’s Day provides the opportunity to join together to celebrate in community and to reflect on the advancements that have been made for gender equality and advocate for the work that still needs to be done,” states a Feb. 28 press release.

This year’s theme is #BreakTheBias, highlighting the need to break stereotypes and biases related to gender and the importance of including those of all gender-identities in the work to advance gender equality.

The community-led event will feature a short march as well as guest speakers, music, children’s activities and Zumba.

The march will start and end at Market Square.

This is a family friendly event and everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.
