Community Mennonite Fellowship Church in Drayton is looking forward to a weekend of celebrations, marking its 25th anniversary as a congregation.
The history of the local church dates back much further than 25 years. In 1990, two small congregations sharing one pastor officially joined and became Community Mennonite Fellowship. Members of Berea Mennonite Church and Moorefield Mennonite Church shared a pastor and had a joint youth group for many years, but after giving much consideration to the churches’ futures, the decision was made to become one congregation and construct a new church building in Drayton. The congregation moved into the Drayton building in 1997.
As part of the celebrations, Community Mennonite Fellowship invites the Mapleton community to attend a carnival at the church, located at 109 Wellington Street in Drayton, on May 23 from 11am to 4pm.
Guests can enjoy live musical entertainment. Food will be available, including hamburgers, ice cream and apple fritters with maple syrup.
Kids and youth may enjoy a bouncy castle, volleyball, outdoor games, face painting, a penny table, and a cake walk.
A quilt display and digital photo slide show will be happening inside the church. The penny table and the cake walk are a fundraiser for the church’s mission trip to the Dominican Republic, but the rest of the event is free.
Guests are also invited to join the congregation for its 10:30am Reunion Worship Service on May 24.
A potluck meal will follow the service. Email or call the church office for more information about the weekend events at 519-638-3012 or communitymennonite@bellnet.ca.
