Team Ontario’s midget lacrosse team settled for silver at the 2017 Female Box Lacrosse Nationals in Halifax July 17 to 21.
This was Centre Wellington athlete Frances McKnight’s third year playing with the provincial team at the nationals. This year she was an assistant captain.
“I definitely enjoyed it as much (as last year), it was a little different because I was one of the captains this year,” said the 16-year-old.
“It was a little more responsibility but yeah, it was good.”
Team Ontario was the reigning champion from last year, but could not stop Team British Columbia’s winning streak during this year’s tournament.
The Ontario midget team ended up losing 8-1 in the final, walking away with silver.
Arthur resident Erin Rooney played again for Team Ontario in the bantam division. Team Ontario came home with gold 5-3 against BC. They lost only one game of the seven played during the week-long tournament.
