Local artist Dan Hammond is continuing his tradition of designing exclusive comic book covers for the London Comic Con.
This year his subject was the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
“I had to get the original drawing approved by Nickelodeon as they own the rights to the Turtles and it’s published by IDW Comics based out of San Diego,” Hammond said.
Only 1,000 copies of the limited Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic featuring Hammond’s cover were printed. Copies are available at Roxanne’s Reflections Book and Card Shop in Fergus.
For last year’s London Comic Con, Hammond designed a collector’s edition Captain Canuck cover.
“Hopefully it will open some more doors for my artwork and I can continue to do some covers or sequential artwork for more established publishers,” he said.
“(An) absolute dream would be to do a Batman cover one day.”
Hammond has illustrated a novel cover, an album cover, a kid’s book and an independent comic book – he’s also the Wellington Advertiser’s weekly editorial cartoonist.
Recently the artist has been visiting schools to teach students of all ages about comics and cartooning, including basic anatomy, perspective and the work itself.
