Little discussion was held by Puslinch council late last month on a request by Cox Construction to renew a 10-year permit to take up to nearly three-million litres of water per day to wash gravel.
Puslinch council briefly reviewed the correspondence sent to the municipality last month as a result of the requirements of Ontario’s new Water Taking and Transfer Regulation.
The regulation requires that the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change notify municipalities and conservation authorities of applications for Permits to Take Water to withdraw water from locations within their jurisdiction.
Cox Construction seeks to renew its permit for a 10-year-period to take water from its pond at 6803 Laird Road. The permit allows the company to use the pond water for industrial aggregate washing from April 1 to Nov. 15 at a maximum rate of up to 4,164 litres per minute or max volume of 2,998,037 litres per day.
Mayor Dennis Lever requested the municipality suggest that Puslinch would prefer to limit the permit to five years as opposed to 10 years.
