List of candidates grows ahead of July 27 deadline

With the provincial election over,  more names have been added to the nominations list for Wellington County municipal elections.

The nomination period ends July 27 and the election takes place on Oct. 22.

Centre Wellington

Three new nominations were filed by the end of day on June 26 in Centre Wellington, where the positions of mayor and six ward councillors are up for grabs.

Ian MacRae and incumbent Don Fisher are running for ward 1 councillor and incumbent Stephen Kitras has filed for ward 5 councillor.

Incumbent Kelly Linton is the only candidate running for mayor by press time.

Erin

In Erin, Jamie Cheyne joins John Brennan and Rob Smith in the open race for councillor. Nominations are being accepted for a mayor and four councillor positions.

Allan Alls (incumbent) is currently the only candidate running for mayor.

Guelph-Eramosa

No new names have been added to the list of candidates for mayor and four ward council positions in Guelph-Eramosa.

Currently running are:

– Chris White (incumbent) for mayor;

– David Wolk (incumbent) for ward 1;

– Corey Woods (incumbent) for ward 2;

– Louise Marshall (incumbent) for ward 3; and

– Mark Bouwmeester (incumbent) for ward 4.

Mapleton

In Mapleton, nominations will be accepted for a mayor and four council positions. Mayoral candidate Neil Driscoll (incumbent) is the only person running for mayor at this time.

Incumbents Marlene Ottens, Dennis Cravin and Lori Woodham are again running for councillor.

Minto

In Minto, nominations will be accepted for a mayor, a deputy mayor and five councillor positions. Geoff Gunson and Ron Elliot (incumbent) are seeking council positions.

Current councillor David Turton is now running for the deputy mayor position.

Running for mayor are George Bridge (incumbent) and Terry Fisk.

Puslinch

In Puslinch, nominations will be accepted for a mayor and five councillor positions.

James Seeley will be running against incumbent Dennis Lever for mayor.

Incumbents Ken Roth and John Sepulis are running for councillor.

Wellington North

In Wellington North, nominations will be accepted for a mayor and four ward council positions.

Incumbent councillors Dan Yake (ward 1), Sherry Burke (ward 2), Lisa Hern (ward 3) and Steve McCabe (ward 4) have filed for their respective wards.

Current mayor Andy Lennox will once again be running for the position.

Wellington County

For Wellington County council, more candidates are joining the race for nine ward seats.

Dave Anderson (incumbent) will be running again for ward 1 county councillor.

Gregg Davidson (incumbent) has filed for the ward 2 seat.

Campbell Cork is now running against incumbent Gary Williamson for ward 3 county councillor.

Ross Chaulk and Vinnie Green are vying for the ward 4 seat.

Current ward 7 county councillor Don McKay will be running again for his seat.

In ward 9, current Erin councillor Jeff Duncan is running against incumbent Pierre Brianceau.

No names have been filed for Wards 5, 6 or 8.  

School boards

Cassandra O’Donnell (nee Chornoboy) (Wards 2 and 4) and Andrew Finoro (wards 1, 3 and 5) are looking to fill two of the six trustee seats in the Wellington Catholic District School Board.

Denis Trundel has filed for a seat on the Conseil Scolaire Viamonde (French Public).

There are no nominations so far for the Upper Grand District School Board or Conseil Scolaire de District Catholique Centre-Sud (French Catholic).
