Guelph singer-songwriter Jane Lewis, known as a music workshop presenter and sing-a-long leader, will step into the spotlight on Sept. 26, to perform an evening of music from her full-length record Stay With Me.
The album release will be at Dublin Street United Church, featuring Lewis with a full band that includes her partner and producer Sam Turton, Jesse Turton, Jeff Wilson, Eve Goldberg, and other special guests.
“This project is a major work for me, and has been over a year in the making, so I want this to be a party,” said Lewis. “Our enthusiasm will definitely come across in the show.”
The new album, a follow-up to her debut EP, is an eclectic folk/pop hybrid that features 10 original songs and two classics, including an unusual arrangement of a famous Beatles song, which Lewis expects will be a happy surprise for listeners.
Lewis’ music is piano-based and draws on her strength as a lyricist and singer. She co-writes with Turton, and credits him for bringing variety to her music.
“Writing together means that we keep pushing each other to take every song to the next level. I think we end up with better songs than we would if we were working alone,” said Lewis, who began her music career singing backup vocals for Turton, and then started writing her own songs and singing lead.
A published author and editor, she shifted careers to pursue music full time in 2009. She also runs a music workshop series called All Together Now and co-leads a monthly sing-a-long at Magnolia Café in Guelph .
The release show starts at 8pm. Tickets are available at http://janelewis.eventbrite.com. For more information visit www.janelewis.ca .
