The ‘passing’ of trees

Dear Editor:

Three years ago I moved into a little bungalow in the northeast part of Fergus. One of the things that delighted me about the area was the abundance of huge old trees. But during the three years many of these lovely old giants have been cut down.

No longer will they sequester carbon from the air, give us shade from the increasingly warming sun, provide shelter for myriad birds, insects and mammals, and delight us with their beauty.

I’m sure there must have been good reasons for cutting them down, but just want to acknowledge their passing and how much they will be missed.

I hope there are plans to plant some saplings for the next generations.

Judi Gunter,

Fergus
