Dear Editor:
Recently my wife and I were asked to babysit her sister’s two larger dogs for a couple of weeks while they went on vacation.
Not knowing exactly how these dogs would behave while being exercised off their leashes, we sought out a fenced-in area. Friends and neighbours informed us that there is no suitable dog run in the village of Elora. One neighbour drives her dog some place south of Guelph, as he is high energy and can’t be exercised sufficiently on a leash.
Rather than take the chance of letting these dogs go in an unconfined area we decided to take them to the baseball diamond on the west side of Wellington Road 7 by the Elora arena. During weekdays it is unused so we thought this was quite suitable for our purpose.
My wife and I were both appalled upon our first and subsequent visits. Apparently other dog owners have been using this park also, but some have failed to bring along poop bags to clean up after their animals.
We feel sorry for anybody that has to play ball in this outfield as it is littered with piles of dog feces. Once more this is a case of a few inconsiderate people that will be ruining it for the rest of the responsible dog owners.
We would not blame the town if they imposed a total ban on using this, or any other town property, as a place to exercise our dogs. Stoop and scoop people, before it is too late.
Ken and Marilyn Holmes,
Elora
