Protect privacy

Dear Editor:

I, and many others like me, are concerned that our political parties are gathering personal formation about each of us – but are not protecting that information in accordance with federal privacy legislation. That lack of protection will discourage many others from responding to, or assisting, any political party.

Canada’s Chief Electoral Office and the Privacy Commissioner of Canada both support amending the law to provide protection for our political data. Political parties should be made subject to PIPEDA (the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act) which applies to all legitimate organizations!
