Dear Editor:
I’ve been dismayed to read letters to the editor lauding that the Grand Rover Conservation Authority (GRCA)-controlled multi-use trails won’t be used by the local snowmobile clubs this year.
I wonder if these writers realize that much of the infrastructure (grading, railings over the Belwood dam, culverts, etc..) for the system was built and maintained by the local clubs over the preceding years?
I also wonder if they realize that the only winter trail maintenance is done by local snowmobile clubs, by way of removing brush and fallen trees, and packing and grooming of the trail?
So those out there who are glad that the insured and law abiding snowmobile clubs won’t be using the GRCA-controlled trails this winter, please remember (as you climb over drifts and fallen branches) that nobody will be answerable for your obstacles this season, as the GRCA does not maintain these trails in the winter.
Richard Beilhartz,
Fergus
