Dear Editor:
Recently I learned about Doug Ford and our government’s effort to cozy up to real estate developers by using MZOs (Ministerial Zoning Orders) to speed up urban development. This is problematic on tw0 fronts.
First, Ford claims the GTA is the fastest growing area in Ontario, true, but wouldn’t it be prudent to welcome new immigrants to put down roots in smaller urban or rural areas where they and their skills are needed more?
Second, Ford wants development, but where is that going to happen when our sources of potable water are getting harder to find (while allowing large bottled water corporations to lay claim to ever more scarce well sites)?
We still have Indigenous communities in Ontario having to boil their drinking water!
