Dear Editor:
RE: Administrator used museum van, staff for personal move, April 25.
This article caught our attention and has deeply saddened us. A member of our community and a public servant has been publicly shamed.
It was mentioned that those who reported her had wished not to make it a big deal. We would respectfully ask why they did not take the opportunity to approach Ms. Hindley in person?
We pride ourselves on our close sense of community and willingness to help friend and neighbour alike. This article was neither. We find it to be a sad reflection of our community to shame a loyal public servant for something any one of us would or could have done.
In no way did she cost the taxpayer time or money as the article reported that the use of the van and employees time were at her own expense. It was also disappointing to see CAO Scott Wilson not take the opportunity to defend his employee. We would disagree that there was no way to put a positive spin on her actions. She meant no harm.
Many of us are able to take advantage of small perks from our jobs. This should easily be forgiven as such.
