Christmas day was just a little bit more wonderful than it has ever been before for me and many others in Centre Wellington. Thanks to Uncle Ernie’s Christmas Party, everyone in our community had a place to go and people to love.
Uncle Ernie’s Christmas Party was a free Christmas dinner on Christmas day for anyone in the community who wanted to celebrate Christmas with us. This neighbourhood event was hosted by the Centre Wellington Ministerial at Melville United Church from 4pm-8pm. Many people in the community contributed to make this event which was intended to make the Christmas season easier and create an environment of family for those who have none or just none close by. Gifts for the children were contributed by Anytime Fitness, Space for the event was donated by Melville United, Turkey’s to feed the masses were donated by the Food Bank, Gifts for the adults were made and contributed by many private community members, and Terrific Tom drove the bus donated by Voyager Transportation so people from Arthur and Elora could attend the event.
Everyone enjoyed a wonderful Turkey Dinner with all the trimmings. Everyone took home a Tim’s card and a gift, a big hug and warm memories. I want to thank each and everyone of our 25 volunteers who worked so hard to make it all happen. At the end of the day we feed 125 people. But more importantly, by feasting together, we experienced the power of community and the spirit of Christmas.
Sincerely,
Mary Crome
