“Slaughter With Impunity?”

Jim Trautman’s opus “It will end badly” would be the front
runner if there was a Nobel Prize for pure “Bias.” By ignoring the reality of history he has composed a letter that is indicative of his lack of knowledge or understanding of the Historical events surrounding the formation of the State Of Israel. In his letter he totally by-passed the U.N. vote that not only created what became Israel, but also created an independent Palestinian State. The problem was the the Arabs (as they were then, Palestinians’ were created by Arafat a few decades later) decided they wanted it all and five Arab armies invaded to drive the Jews ‘into the sea’. Israel received little or no
military aide from any country and its army consisted primarily of refugees speaking a dozen different languages
and were armed with virtually every calibre and type of weapon, some even from WWI. The Arabs however had tanks, aircraft and heavy artillery, most of which was British and
French surplus from WWII and the Arab Legion (Jordan) was led by a British General.
Mr.Trautman’s use of the word ‘Slaughter’ is especially galling, considering that for decades Jewish agricultural
settlements in the Palestinian Mandate suffered constant
raids from Arab units, who killed and raped with impunity and were ignored by the British occupiers of Palestine. Many of these raids were inspired by the Grand Mufti Of Jerusalem who later spent WWII as an honoured guest of Adolph Hitler.
As history shows, the Arabs did not succeed in driving the Jews into the sea and were defeated in spite of their much superior numbers and arms. It is this humiliation that drove
them over the next several decades to launch war after
war and each time suffered the same defeats. And each time
Israel was outnumbered and out-gunned.
I would suggest that Mr. Trautman put aside his obvious bias
for the time it would take him to read a little history.
