As a resident of Kenilworth, my children attend Kenilworth PS, which is part of the Upper Grand District School Board.
Our school is facing possible closure as the Board examines its options through an Accommodation Review.
While there have been public meetings taking place to discuss these options it has been clear that there will be a large and possibly negative impact on both Arthur PS and Victoria Cross PS.
While these public meetings have been well attended by Kenilworth residents I can’t help but wonder; where are the Mount Forest and Arthur residents??
Should the results of this Accommodation Review end in the closure of Kenilworth PS, the remaining two schools will see an increase in their class sizes, a decrease in the ability for teachers to provide valuable one-on-one time, the implementation of portables as well as other changes that may not benefit students.
It has been made clear, that money saved by closing Kenilworth PS will not be utilized in improving either Victoria Cross PS or Arthur PS, rather, residents would see that money funneled away from the communities of Wellington North.
The final public meeting is scheduled for October 29th. I urge any and all residents of Wellington North to please attend and make yourself heard before a decision is made. This decision will impact the quality of education being provided for all children in the Wellington North area for years to come.
