To the editor,
My eldest daughter was among the Elora P.S. Grade 8 students who protested the cancellation of their Quebec trip, and the restrictions on their graduation ceremony, imposed as a direct result of the continuing teachers’ strike. I am immensely proud of my daughter and her peers for demonstrating their position in this way. I am also immensely frustrated and appalled by the continued action on the part of the teachers. Whilst I support their position in principle, I find their job action to be ridiculous, akin to young children throwing tantrums when they don’t get their own way. This is a fight that should be fought in a courtroom, not a classroom. Teachers’ selfish job action has robbed our grade 8 students of memories they are meant to cherish for the rest of their lives. For that reason alone, teachers deserve to lose this fight.
