Dear Editor, I have just had the pleasure of reading Bruce Whitestone’s recent column (Governments trying to do exactly the wrong thing for recovery). I have a degree in Economics and I have to say how refreshing it is to hear sound economic fundamentals in a “business” column! Recalling my macro-economic classes and specifically those in Government Spending and Economic Growth, Mr. Whitestone is right on the money (pun accidental) about the history and fundamental economic principles. Though the notion of spending to achieve recovery is alien to many of us as households, it is important to keep in mind that governments are not households, nor are they businesses, and to run them as such is recipe for certain disaster. Thanks for giving a voice to a sensible “business columnist” in Bruce Whitestone! Cheers! Bill Morrison Fergus
