No to carbon tax.
People still have to drive and battery car technology is not available to replace gas. A carbon tax will negatively affect our economy, lower the average family standard of living with virtually no benefit to the environment. UN statistics quote that transportation is (only) responsible for 15% of global co2 emission, while animal agriculture is at 51%. So, by far, the leading cause of climate change is animal agriculture, not our current consumption rate of fossil fuels, yet I don’t see anyone rallying for a tax on meats and dairy. Animal agriculture also produces 65% of the worlds nitrous oxide gas which has a global warming footprint 296 times greater than CO2 per pound. Raising animals for food is responsible for 30% of the worlds water consumption, Nestle is at 0.001% (start wrapping blue ribbons on cows). Our PM claims that we have to tax fossil fuels to reduce consumption and save the environment but is installing 3 pipelines to bring even more oil from the tar sands to market? Wake up and see the clear message here? Carbon tax is only intended to increase government revenue and will not aid the environment at all (that’s why Australia cancelled it after 2 years). Beware, 11 cents a liter carbon tax on gas is just the first snowflake of the avalanche as that cost increase gets added onto everything else, just like increasing the minimum wage will. Say NO! to carbon tax.
