I love being an Arthurite! Uncle Arthur’s Christmas party is a free Community dinner complete with gifts, crafts for the kids and musical entertainment for anyone in the community who wants to celebrate with us. We do this because we know Christmas can be a difficult time for many reasons. We also know the power of community to make this difficult time better. Having a place of family or community at Christmas time is a protective factor against loneliness, depression and even suicide. We aim to create that place of family, for those who would benefit for whatever reason.

But we aren’t doing it alone, Arthur wouldn’t let that happen. Like a batch of stone soup, or like Christmas lights sparking one by one, the community has pulled together to make this event happen. One person donates stuffing, another does some Christmas baking, another donates a ham. St. Nick of Jolley’s Toys on hiway 6 donated so many toys for good little girls and boys. Neighbours and friends dropped of gifts to my house so no one will go without. Rutabaga arrived, courtesy of my good ole Dad, Carrots from my friend. The Learning Centre found potatoes, 50lbs indeed, with the help of the Bellwood Country Market.

This is what community is. This is what community does. I am so honoured to be a part of the Village of Arthur, to call this place home. And I extend an invitation to anyone who would like to come to Uncle Arthur’s Christmas party. We could use some help….to eat the turkey.

Dec. 25 from 5-8. setting up at 3pm, dinner served family style at 5:30. Stories and songs from 6:30-8. Arthur Pentecostal Assembly.

Merry Crome
