Dear Editor:
After seeing the Welly’s Community Events notice about the screening of Merchants of Doubt on February 17 at the Erin Legion, I decided to attend.
The film brilliantly demonstrates how the science focusing on critical issues such as cigarette smoking, chemical flame retardants, DDT, acid rain, and now climate change has been manipulated by highly paid industry lobbyists to confuse and paralyze politicians and the public.
Their tactics range from deception, distortion, disinformation, denial (of scientific data) and finally harassment of the scientists bringing us the facts about global warming.
I urge everyone who has not seen this film to do so. It made me angry and I hope it also angers you. It gave me more resolve to continue standing up as a volunteer lobbyist with Citizens Climate Lobby to fight back, by lobbying our political representatives (both Federal and Provincial), writing letters to the editor, and sending postcards to all politicians (of every party), urging them to enact legislation for the good of all humanity. I hope the film will inspire many more people to do likewise.
