CENTRE WELLINGTON – The Elora Legion is holding a contactless bottle drive from May 22 to May 24 from 10-4, they are accepting all LBCO and beer store containers.
The idea of a contactless bottle drive is that people don’t have to get out of their cars to help.
They simply pull up to the Legion’s driveway and volunteers will meet them there and unload the bottles from their trunk.
This is the second year the Legion has held a contactless drive, and found it an efficient way to operate, planning to potentially keep it going annually.
Last year’s proceeds went to Get In Touch For Hutch, an organization advocating for mental health. This year proceeds from the event will go towards projects in the community.
Since many groups haven’t been able to fundraise due to the pandemic, if they are starting up again, and low on funds, the group can reach out to the Legion and potentially they can help them out. “The money will go back into the community, or where its needed.” Said Elora Legion Steward Angie Walser.
Due to pandemic restrictions the fundraiser is not much of an event, but Walser still discussed the benefits of participating, both to fundraise money, and for the sake of an outing, “especially now, with nothing else really to do, we can’t go anywhere so it gets people out for a little drive.”
