LCBO donation boxes boost Parkinson Society

The public can now help support Parkinson Society Ontario by making a donation at any of the 635 LCBO stores throughout Ontario. Donation boxes for Parkinson Society Ontario will be displayed at LCBO checkout counters until Aug. 17.

As the voice of people living with Parkinson’s, Parkinson Society Ontario includes regional partners in eastern central, northern Ontario and southwestern Ontario.

These partners are dedicated to improving the quality of their lives and work to ease the burden and find a cure through education, support services, research and advocacy.

“There are 40,000 of people in Ontario affected by Parkinson’s Disease,” says Debbie Davis,  CEO of the Parkinson Society Central and Northern Ontario.

Parkinson’s affects both men and women from all ethnic backgrounds.

Although the average age of onset is 60, it also affects people in their 20s, 30s and 40s.

“As a good neighbour, LCBO is pleased to partner with Parkinson Society Ontario and support a variety of worthy causes,” says LCBO president and CEO Bob Peter.

In 2012, LCBO raised a total of more than $6.6 million for charities through special programs and initiatives, of which $6.1 million was raised through in-store fundraising.
