HARRISTON – The town’s business exploration hub, LaunchIt Minto, has found a new home in the downtown core of Harriston at The Old Post.
The hub was created in 2014 as part of the town’s economic development strategy in partnership with the Minto Chamber of Commerce.
The grand opening was celebrated in the new space on March 19. Minto Mayor Dave Turton and some council members attended, as well as Perth-Wellington MP John Nater.
During his opening speech, Nater congratulated the LaunchIt team on the “wonderful, central and beautiful space.”
“We really leaned in to creating a space where people can come and collaborate,” LaunchIt chair Heather Watterworth told guests.
“To know that there was a place in rural Ontario for creative business owners is pretty amazing.”
She noted the hub started out catering to creative businesses in particular but now has expanded into business exploration.
The organization serves entrepreneurs whether they are looking to grow or begin a business.
“Like a business, Launchit couldn’t grow on its own; we have many partners to thank that have helped us evolve,” Watterworth said.
Partners include the County of Wellington, Business Centre Guelph-Wellington, Saugeen Connects as well as the Saugeen Economic Development Corporation.
“Launchit is also a regional hub, so we serve business owners from across northern Wellington County,” Watterworth explained. “We’re here to stay.”
The hub also provides support for small businesses, with training, workshops and mentorship.
“This space represents growth, innovation and opportunity,” Minto Chamber of Commerce chair Joe Mclaughlin said.
“LaunchIt has been a key resource for entrepreneurs; this new location will strengthen its role as a hub for business support.”
“As we cut the ribbon, we’re not just opening a new space; we’re opening doors to new possibilities for business success in Minto,” he said.
Before the move, LaunchIt resided at 1 Elora St. Unit 3 and 4 in Harriston for over 10 years.
The Old Post is located at 39 Elora St. S. and serves as an event space, café and an escape room to various businesses.
